We had the fun experience of taking a ride in Santa's sleigh last night. He happens to be in my ward and live not far from us. This sweet man absolutely loves to be Santa. He has his own suit and makes an appearance at all the ward parties. He gives free rides in his sleigh he built to pull behind a 4-wheeler adorned with reindeer to anyone who shows up. HE is also known to have hot cocoa and candy canes. It was so fun to see my kids light up at the sight of Santa. It was really magical. It really made me think about Santa and what he stands for. There are all kinds of rumors that Santa is the one to take Christ out of Christmas, but I don't think so. Santa Claus is the way we can teach children about complete selfless giving. Santa takes time to think of every child in the whole world, and make a gift for each. He does his best to give them what they really want and will make them happy. He asks nothing in return, but is wonderfully happy to have a thank you and a few cookies. Brother Christensen puts so much time and money into being Santa every year. He uses all his time for the whole month of December. The only reason I can see is to be the magic that children see. It seems a little cheesy, but that was the look in Spencer's and Allie's eyes watching Santa come closer and give them each a big hug. Tonight as I play Santa and put the presents I am thinking about how I can be more giving, and enjoy spoiling my children. They have had the "gimmies" for weeks, and are too excited to sit still. I am ready to run screaming out the door, but I am so happy to make them happy. I think I want to be a little more like Santa. :^)
